Assessing and providing feedback on performance is considered essential to an employee’s empowerment to perform job duties effectively. Developing an effective performance evaluation system constitutes a critical and challenging task for managers.

This study aims to investigate on the main factors influencing the employee reactions and level of satisfaction with performance appraisal and its outcomes among workers of iron and steel industry. Fairness of performance appraisal and performance appraisal purposes (or uses) have been identified as the main factors from exploratory interviews with Mines and Metals industry HR experts, review of literature and studies on performance appraisal.
